In Mission Hill, on the line of Boston and Roxbury, six Catholic Franciscan monks live in contemplation and service to their community. They call themselves the Little Brothers of Saint Francis. The foundation for their way of life is the emulation of Saint Francis of Assisi and Jesus Christ. In the 13th century Saint Francis befriended and cleansed lepers that were ostracized from society. Today on the Hill the Brothers befriend and care for the “lepers of society” who are otherwise forgotten.

They have three vows for which they wear three knots—Chastity, Poverty and Obedience—just as Saint Francis wore. Aside from these vows there are few limitations on where the Brothers go or what they do. They decide the specifics of each day for themselves; ultimately they wish only to serve and love God through serving and loving all their fellow Man.
