Why I photograph people:
I have always wanted to help people. Once upon a time I didn’t think I would be a professional artist because I thought it was selfish to just express Me all the time. But I couldn’t stop photographing and in time I realized the power of photographing people–of helping someone see the best in themselves. It turns out I was made for this rewarding job.
The full spectrum:
While at Emerson College I designed my own degree program in Visual Communication and Design in order to explore my integrated interests in photography, film, print design, new media design, and art and media history. My capstone projects included a photo documentary about a Franciscan community in Mission Hill and an educational website prototype for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
I have been an in-house photographer, graphic designer, and new media designer for Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, and a videographer, producer, and editor for public television. Currently my focus is my wedding and portrait photography business.
In the community:
I am enjoying my second year being a "Big Sister" mentor to a little girl in Boston. If you have ever thought about being a Big Brother or Sister I recommend going for it! It's as simple as an hour a week and rewarding for everyone.
For many years I was a docent at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum where I gave introductory talks about the collection. Although I chose to be a Big Sister with my volunteer time instead, I am a frequent visitor at the Gardner and end up giving impromptu tours when I am there! My interests have extended outside the museum and I have given talks about the museum, Isabella, and the infamous Gardner Theft at such venues as the Cambridge Center for Adult Education and the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Yoga teaching:
I trained at the world-famous Kriaplu Center for Yoga & Health and the yogic mindset effects everything I do. It's key as a wedding photographer–curious about why? Check out my little video below (yes–I've cut my hair off since I made this video
